Simple Soft Neutral Smokey Eye For Hooded/Asian Eyes

Looking for a simple, easy, quick eye tutorial for hooded eyes? Well, hope this post helps =)

To get a more dramatic and intense look, simply use the same techniques and layer more colours on or use darker/more pigmented shadows. I only did one layer of each colour in the pictures below which makes this smokey eye very soft and wearable; even in the day time.

Keep reading for a detailed step by step tutorial =], ENJOY!

Click the image to enlarge
Step A:
*Smooth your favourite eye primer from lash line to brow bone as well as your lower lashes and inner corner of eye.
*Here I'm using ELF's Mineral Eye Primer (not my favourite but I still gotta use it or else I'm just wasting my money!!).
Step B:
*Use a flat shadow brush and apply a shimmery gold shadow on your lids a little bit pass your eyelid fold line.
*Here I'm using Urban Decay's original NAKED palette in Half Baked with the shadow brush that this palette came with.

Step C:
*Use another shadow brush (one that is fluffier than the one from Step B) and apply a dark brown shadow to the crease area(open your eyes and see if the fold cover all the colours, if it does then apply this colour higher pass the crease so that it is visible even when you have your eyes open). Also apply this colour to the outer V area and slightly smudging a bit on the top lash line. Then use a fluffy blending brush to blend away hard edges.
*Here I'm using
Urban Decay's original NAKED palette in Dark Horse, ELF's Studio Line shadow brush and Sigma's Blending brush E25.
*Keep layering this colour to intensify the look until you are satisfied with the look
Step D:
*Use a crease brush or a small eye contour brush as shown in the picture, pick up a dark colour of your choice, prefer a matte colour or something close to a matte (dark brown, dark navy, black etc..). Place it in you outer V to create more depth and dimension to your eyes (great for Asian eyes since we pretty much have a flat eye).
*Here I'm using
Urban Decay's original NAKED palette in Creep, ELF's Studio Line Contour Brush and the same Sigma's Blending brush E25 as Step C.
*Keep Layering this colour to intensify the look

Step E:

*Taking the same flat shadow brush from Step B, use the clean side to pick up a shimmery highlighting colour and apply it under your brown bone. Use a matte white colour to highlight the inner corner of your eye and blend with fingers towards the bottom half eyelash.

*I used
Urban Decay's original NAKED palette in Virgin (brown bone) and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (inner corner) as shown in pictures.

Step F:
*Use an angled eyeliner brush, pick up the same dark brown that you used in Step C and apply it to the outer half of your lower lash line.
* I used Dark Horse from the NAKED palette
.

Step G:
*Line your top lash line with a black liner of your choice (I prefer gel liner but you can use whatever you are more comfortable with). Start from the middle of the eye and wing it out a bit in the end. Use the same liner and tightline your upper lashes.
*Here I am using ELF's Angled Liner Brush and my favourite gel liner that was also featured in ELLE Magazine; Motives Cosmetics Gel Liner in Little Black Dress (you can purchase Motives Cosmetics HERE =])
Note: If you want to make you eyes look bigger; line the entire top lash line.
If you want to make you eyes look smaller and longer; line the top lash line starting from the middle of the eye. Do not line the inner half of the top lash line or try lining it very thinly if you want to achieve an enlarging effect.

Step H (FINAL STEPP YAYY!! =]):

*Curl and apply your favourite waterproof mascara or even apply false lashes if you wish to but I didn't.
*I used my a lash curler that came in a Clinique past Gift-With-Purchase promotion and used 2 coats of Motives Lustrafy Waterproof Mascara

FINAL LOOK =]
On the rest of my face:
-MAC Studio Fix Concealer in NC30
-Maybelline Mousse Concealer in Medium for under my eye
(now discontinued =[ )
-MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation in C4
-Makeup Forever HD Finishing Powder
-Annabelle's Eyebrown pencil in Black
-ELF's Blush and Bronzing duo
-EOS orignal stick lipbalm in vanilla
-Lancome's Color Design Natural Beauty Cream Lipstick
-ELF's Mineral Lipgloss in Pageant Princess

I love this bun! SAD that I chop of mu hair and can't do this anymore, but it's ok it will grow back real soon =D

Hope this was helpful, feel free to use the products you already have, you do not have to use exactly what I've used =].

Please let me know if you would like my future tutorials to include step by step pictures of where I applied the product and how it looks after each step like I did in this post(very good visual for you guys but very time consuming for me =[, it's ok thought =]) or would you rather just see a picture of the final look and a description of how I did it (much easier for me to do but not so helpful for you guys I think)?

Anyways school starts in two days for me =[ boooo but excited that it's my LAST semester of University yay! =D. I think this simple, soft, natural eye look is very suitable for school as well =].

Have yourself a wonderful day! Talk soon =]

I would like to know if you ever tried the eyelid tapes? as I read here http://www.eyelidtapes.com/ these tapes can make real magic with the eyelids. I haven't tried them personally, so, it would be great to hear the opinion of a person, who has tried.

ThisIsAlx said...

Hi Sweetie_CO!

I personally have not tried eyelid tapes on myself but I do use it on my clients. I find the double sided tapes the best because they are hidden away rather then the single sided tape where it is just places on top of the eyelid which is usually visible. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! =)
